Darren Howard is a Civil Litigation Attorney in our Winston-Salem office and handles high damages cases across the State. With more than 20 years of courtroom experience, Mr. Howard has represented hundreds of clients in civil and criminal cases, both in State and Federal courts. He has also assisted other local firms in the capacity of co-counsel in complex insurance claims involving traumatic workplace injuries. Attorney Howard has appeared on the other side of these cases as well by representing several local companies before the North Carolina Industrial Commission where the Commission has sought to levy non-compliance fines and penalties.

With his decades of experience on both sides of these cases, he can guide you through the entire process of navigating serious and potentially permanent injuries while addressing the myriad of obstacles typically thrown up by the insurance company.

Darren leads the firm’s civil litigation team, with a focus on Worker’s Compensation and traumatic personal injury. Attorney Howard has successfully and vigorously represented seriously injured workers in multiple industries across the Triad region, including workplace accidents involving employers ranging in size from small companies to multi-national corporations.

Recently, he has found that many injured workers are threatened with termination or other adverse employment actions when they attempt to report a workplace claim. Another disturbing trend, especially during COVID, is that many serious and legitimate injury claims are being routinely denied by insurance companies without legal justification. When a potential client is forced to contend with these threats, on top of fighting to receive appropriate medical care for their condition, Attorney Howard recommends immediate action in order to force the insurance companies to defend their stance.

When a recent client was confronted with this exact scenario, Darren and his team immediately filed this client’s claim with the North Carolina Industrial Commission and requested a hearing. After pushing the insurance company and their attorneys, the company conceded, and this claim was successfully resolved at mediation, for full value, and the client was able to receive the medical treatment he deserved.

Before entering law school at Wake Forest, Darren served in the United States Navy and was assigned to a civilian intelligence agency based upon his overseas travels and his ability to speak Russian. At a young age, he was tasked with briefing national intelligence officials on a regular basis and was selected to serve on an inter-agency task force. These duties placed a premium on efficient action and attention to detail.

When Darren is not practicing law, he enjoys spending time and traveling with his family, reading history books, attending Duke basketball games and bow hunting the elusive Whitetail.
