With being in and out of the courtroom daily, Patrick has gained an invaluable perspective. He has also run into many myths about criminal law and the court system along the way. One of the most common myths that Hollywood and television often perpetuate is that cases get resolved quickly, and forensics will prove someone’s innocence beyond a reasonable doubt. Unfortunately, in real life, court cases are far more complicated. A criminal case may take months to resolve, and evidence may face admissibility obstacles. A prime example of this is when Patrick helped a Davie County client appeal his DWI case to Superior Court. Upon reviewing the facts of the case, Patrick filed a Motion to Suppress for Lack of Reasonable Suspicion. Through his experience in handling DWIs across North Carolina, Patrick was able to see the specific flaws in the evidence law enforcement brought forth against the client. As a result, Patrick was successful in the appeal process for our client. At first, our client had lost all hope. Patrick was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from NC State University where he also served as a middle linebacker for the NC State Wolfpack football team. (Go Wolfpack!) He then went on to earn his J.D. from Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina. While attending Elon University School of Law, Patrick interned for North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby. He also interned for a local business law firm throughout his third year of law school. And, while working full-time as an associate at a local business law firm, Patrick served as a court-appointed criminal defense attorney. He represented clients in multiple district court trials for many legal matters including assault charges, DWI charges, and property offenses.
When Patrick is not practicing law, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, playing golf and basketball, reading history books, and playing the drums. Patrick is also heavily involved in the Greensboro community through volunteer activities with his church.
